Our Mission

We are a partnership of congregations and community organizations responding to the crisis of children and their families who are homeless. We work to eliminate homelessness in Greater Indianapolis.

Our Vision

A community where homelessness is rare, short lived, and recoverable. The day that all Hoosier families who are homeless are sheltered on the day they become homeless, because homelessness is not an option for any family or individual.

We serve families through three programs: Diversion, Apartment Shelter, and Aftercare.

Diversion: Helps families at the shelter door find and maintain non-shelter accommodations until permanent housing can be secured. We help families extend their current living arrangements for up to 60-90 days while we create a permanent housing plan. If successful, we invite families to join the AfterCare Program. Otherwise, they are reserved the next opening in our Apartment Shelter Program. Diversion helps families with children avoid the trauma of a shelter stay while saving shelter capacity for those most in need.

Apartment Shelter: In this program, shelter is provided at furnished apartments around Indianapolis that Family Promise master leases from private landlord partners. Congregations and a furniture bank provide the furniture, linens, and housewares, and FPGI staff provide case management.

Aftercare: The Aftercare program provides a case manager for families for up to two years after they secure housing and leave shelter or diversion. It also provides rent incentives for participating in our weekly workshops on Tenancy & Home Ownership, Healing, Money Management, and Parenting & Education.
