Our Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Provide an overview of the services provided

Champions of Youth provides professionally supported mentorship programs to at-risk youth ages 5-18.  Our children are referred to us because they have experienced traumatic events, such as abuse, a death of a parent, incarceration of a parent, drug use by a parent, abandonment, or divorce, which has put that child in a place where they are struggling academically and/or socially. Champions of Youth will pair the child with an adult mentor who can be a part of the child’s life.  

Champions of Youth is dedicated to making lasting matches. Our staff does extensive work prior to the child ever meeting with a potential mentor.  Staff complete an interview, reference checks, home visits, and background checks. Staff then meets with the child and potential mentor to ensure the pair is on a good path.  Once a pair is officially declared a match, staff complete a minimum of monthly check-ins to ensure the pair is moving towards a more successful future for the child. If the staff identifies any potential problems, they work with the child, family, or mentor to resolve these issues.  

The method and the procedure have produced successful results. Since 2008, every child participating in the Core mentoring program has graduated from high school.
