Why CVHR Matters

In Indiana, fewer than 100 legal aid attorneys serve the entire state. That means over 70% of Hoosiers don't receive the legal services they need.

That’s where CVHR steps in. Our team stands beside survivors of crime in courtrooms, at neighborhood centers, and in our community every day, helping survivors of crime receive the safety they need.

Mission & History

The Center for Victim and Human Rights (CVHR) is a nonprofit legal aid organization based in Indianapolis. Since 2008, CVHR has helped thousands of survivors of violence find safety, empowerment, and justice through free legal services.

Our mission is simple: to ensure that all victims of crime - regardless of income, background, or immigration status - have access to justice and safety.

What We Do

CVHR provides free legal services to survivors who have experienced:

  • Domestic violence

  • Sexual assault

  • Stalking or harassment

  • Human trafficking

  • Other violent crimes

We represent survivors in civil legal matters such as:

  • Protection Orders – helping victims secure court orders for their safety

  • Family Law – assisting with custody, child support, and related cases

  • Humanitarian Immigration – representing immigrant victims in U Visa, T Visa, and VAWA cases

  • Crime Victim Rights  – supporting survivors as their cases move through the justice system
